A CBI court on Wednesday rejected the bail plea of industrialist Mahima Mishra's son Charchit Mishra in connection with Paradip Port Trust bribery case.
The court also rejected the bail plea of other two accused-Debapriya Mohanty and Sumanta Rout. However, the court granted bail to builder Sisir Dash and refused to extend the remand period sought by the probing agency.
With this turn of event, it is now clear that out of the seven arrested in the bribery case, six will spend some more days in judicial custody.
The court also rejected the CBI’s application to conduct voice test of the accused persons.
Notably, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had arrested seven persons including noted industrialist Mahima Mishra’s son Charchit Mishra, chief engineer Saroj Dash, builder Sisir Das and KCT Group’s Debapriya Mohanty.
As part of its investigation, the CBI had carried out raids at the properties of Mahima Mishra including his house in Cuttack, office in Paradip and several other locations.
According to CBI sources, Das would demand and accept bribes through his close conduit for extending undue benefits to various private stake holders engaged in port service and activities at Paradip Port.
While unloading cargo, a Cuttack-based private company had damaged the conveyor belt operational in Paradip Port earlier. It costs a huge amount of money to get it repaired or replaced. Das, his conduit, a middleman and the director of the said company got it repaired, causing a huge financial loss to Port Trust and corresponding gain to the private company.
