Over two quintals of ganja seized in Bhubaneswar
After a hot pursuit, Police on Monday seized over two quintals of ganja (dry cannabis) while it was being allegedly smuggled to Bhubaneswar from Kandhamal. Two drug peddlers, however, managed to give the cops a slip after their vehicle was chased by officials of the Special squad.
Sources said that the Special squad intercepted the vehicle after getting inputs regarding the illegal smuggling of ganja. After identifying the car, the Special squad officials started chasing the car from Gangapada area and later managed to intercept the car near Jagasara area. The hot-pursuit continued for more than 30 minutes.
Though the two drug peddlers managed to escape, police seized the car along with the ganja consignment. The contraband was being illegally smuggled in a brand-new car.
Sources said that the car has been damaged after hitting a boundary wall while trying to escape from the clutches of police on an isolated road.
"One of the tyres got busted and it caught fire during the chase. The two persons managed to escape after dumping the vehicle," said a local resident.
