Commissionerate Police on Tuesday took Satyajit Samal, who was arrested on the charges of cheating 5 girls after marrying them, on a two-day remand.
Though Capital Police had prayed for 10-day remand, the court allowed the police to take the accused on a two-day remand to carry out further investigation in the case. Samal, the accused, allegedly used to target divorcees and dupe them of their money and other property after marrying them.
A diary has been seized from the residence of the accused, who used to cheat by posing as an Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer. The diary allegedly contains names, addresses, contact numbers and other details of several women.
Earlier, the Twin City Police Commissioner had informed that the accused was in contact with 49 more girls on matrimonial websites. Senior police officials informed that the accused used to target victims via social media or matrimonial websites. He used to closely go through their profile and after doing some research including their likes, dislikes, strengths and weaknesses, he used to approach and trap them.

Police have managed to get details of the accused bank statements and a detailed investigation regarding financial transactions would be conducted.
Police are also trying to ascertain the source of money used by the accused to purchase vehicles or other valuable articles by matching it with bank transaction details.
Samal hails from Jajpur district and was staying in Chandrasekharpur area in Bhubaneswar. He was nabbed after a trap laid by Commissionerate Police.
Samal was nabbed on August 3 on the complaint filed by two victims at Capital Police station. He had duped the first victim to the tune of Rs 36 lakh and a car and Rs 8 lakh and a bullet from the second victim.
