The Vigilance sleuths unearthed disproportionate assets worth over Rs 7 crore from several places linked to an Executive Engineer with the Rural Works (Electrical) Division in Berhampur city on Wednesday.
As per reports, acting on a tip off, simultaneous searches were launched on the properties of Jagannath Sethy, the Executive Engineer of Rural Works (Electrical) Division, Berhampur today at five places in Khordha and Ganjam districts.
The raids were conducted by five teams of the Odisha Vigilance led by one Additional SP, four DSPs, 10 Inspectors and other staff following search warrants issued by the court of special judge, Vigilance, Berhampur.
As per a media release by the department, the following movable and immovable assets worth over Rs.7 crore were unearthed in the name of Sethy.
One five storeyed building at Gajapati Nagar, 11th Lane Extension, Berhampur worth about Rs.1.68 Crore
One four storeyed building at AIIMS Nagar, 3rd Lane Bhubaneswar worth about Rs 1.5 Crore
One four storeyed building at Gajapati Nagar, 8th Lane, Berhampur worth about Rs.90 Lakhs
Single storeyed building at village Putabagada, Chatrapur worth around Rs 9.53 lakhs.
12 plots in prime area of Bhubaneswar, Jatni and Berhampur. The Registered Sale Deed (RSD) value comes to approx Rs.1.34 Crore.
Bank deposits in name of Sethy and his family members worth over Rs.85 Lakhs.
2 four wheelers (Mahindra XUV & Hyundai Creta) worth Rs 25 Lakhs.
Cash Rs 19,88,790
9) 3 two wheelers worth Rs 2,77,163 lakh.
10) Gold jewellery and household articles.
The searches are currently on. The list of assets of the public servant is likely to increase in the coming days, Vigilance sources said.
Earlier in the day, Sethy and his son had locked themselves inside their houses at Berhampur and Bhubaneswar respectively to evade action and obstruct the Vigilance team from conducting searches. The duo also reportedly showed non-cooperation even after being told about the search warrants.
Finding no alternative, the Vigilance team forcibly entered the houses of the officer and his son after breaking open the entrance doors at both the places.
