Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Saturday detected Rs 21.75 lakh cash, 602 gm gold ornaments and other incriminating documents from the possession of Ashish Kumar Dash, Superintending Engineer, Rural Works Division No.1, Malkangiri.
Dash was intercepted by the Vigilance officials in Malkangiri on Friday on suspicion of carrying huge ill-gotten money and during personal search Rs 10.23 unaccounted cash was seized from the government official.
Subsequently, the residential government quarters of Dash situated at Malkangiri and his office were searched. During the search cash, gold, silver and documents related to assets were recovered.
“In total, cash of Rs 21,75,470 and 602 gram gold including 17 gold coins of 10 gm each have been recovered,” the Vigilance said.
Dash has purchased a flat worth of Rs 32,30,480 at Shantivaan Society, Belagachia, Barang, Cuttack in the name of his wife. He has also bought land at Baripal in Keonjhar district in her name.
The Vigilance department further said large number bank documents have been recovered indicating huge cash deposits made by Dash in various accounts which are being examined.
“Large number of investment documents have been recovered indicating huge deposits and investments made in various financial institutions. These are being verified further. Further searches continuing,” the Vigilance added.
