Investigation into a hotel loot case led police in Sambalpur of Odisha to recovery of Rs 32 lakh from underground on Wednesday.
The huge sum of cash was recovered from Deogarh district by a police team while probing into a theft case of Rs 39 lakh from a hotel located at VSS Marg of Sambalpur on April 16.
An investigation was launched into the theft based on the written complaint of the hotel owner. The police had scanned the footage of CCTV cameras installed at the hotel and zeroed in on four suspects. One among them was a former employee of the hotel.
Though the four accused were initially denying any role in the theft, they eventually confessed to the crime. Acting on the information shared by them, a police team dug out the cash from underground.
The cash bundles were found stuffed in a polythene bag. However, there is no information as of now about the remaining cash.
Sambalpur Superintendent of Police is expected to brief the media at 12 pm Wednesday about how the four accused had executed the crime and other details of the case.
