At a time when doctors are considered to be ‘living Gods’, a doctor in Odisha has landed in trouble for allegedly misbehaving with a minor girl during treatment.
Palpable tension prevailed after the doctor posted at the pediatric ward of Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College in Baripada allegedly molested a minor girl who had come for treatment on Monday night.
The doctor in dock, Saurabh Upadhaya, allegedly misbehaved with the minor girl who was rushed to the hospital after she complained of stomachache.
As per allegations, the concerned doctor asked the family and other people accompanying the girl to wait outside and took her inside the chamber for diagnosis. Later, the doctor allegedly misbehaved with her by touching her inappropriately.
The incident came to light after the minor girl narrated her ordeal to her mother, hostel warden and other family members. The incident sparked tension at the hospital with the family and others accusing the doctor of misbehaving with the minor girl in an inebriated condition.
Meanwhile, the concerned doctor has refuted all the allegations levelled against him.
“I had asked other attendants to wait outside and later they made an issue out of it. I am a doctor and I have not committed anything wrong. Police should conduct an inquiry into the matter,” said Upadhyay.
The doctor has been booked under several IPC sections including 354, 354 (A) and section 12 of POCSO Act and section 3 W of SC, ST Act, a senior police official said.
