A National Investigation Agency (NIA) team on Thursday reached Jeypore in Koraput district to investigate into the death of a BSF commandant who had attained martyrdom during a gun fight between security forces and Red rebels in 2012.

The team, comprising two officials, will interrogate dreaded Maoist leader Dubashi Sankar, who is presently lodged in Jeypore sub-jail. 
The NIA has sought permission from the court to quiz the Maoist leader. He will be quizzed after the permission is granted. 

The dreaded Maoist cadre was arrested from a forest near Petaguda in Baipariguda of Koraput district on September 13 this year. Acting on tip-off, teams of Koraput District Voluntary Force (DVF), Special Operation Group (SOG) and Border Security Force (BSF) Jawans launched a combing operation in the forest and arrested him. One Insas rifle, 10 rounds of ammunition, a mobile phone, radio set and Rs 35,000 cash were seized from his possession.

At the time of his arrest Dubashi was carrying a bounty of Rs 20 lakh on his head. He has several cases lodged against him in Andhra Pradesh, Telengana and in Malkangiri and Koraput districts of Odisha. 

In 2012, a fierce encounter ensued between the BSF party and Maoists in Chitrakonda of Malkangiri district. In the gun fight, a commandant and an assistant commandant attained martyrdom. It is suspected that the mastermind of the attack was Dubashi.
