A newborn infant has allegedly gone missing from the special newborn care unit (SNCU) of the Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital (BBMCH), Bolangir.
As per allegations by the infant’s family members, Sushil Swain of Baradipadar village in Boudh district had admitted his wife to the obstetrics and gynaecology department of the BBMCH on Thursday. His wife gave birth to a baby boy on Friday morning.
As per the suggestion of the doctor, a relative of the infant had brought him to the SNCU of the BBMCH. When she again came to the SNCU and enquired about the infant, she was told that someone had already taken the baby.

The worried family members lodged a complaint at the outpost of the BBMCH. Acting on the complaint, the police have launched a probe.
“At the SNCU, I was asked to go leaving the infant. They said the infant would be kept under light. From their conversations, it is clear that they have given the infant to someone else,” alleged Suravi, a relative of the missing infant.
When contacted, the superintendent of BBMCH, Dr Manasi Panda said, “I came to know about the incident from you. I am now going to the SNCU. The CCTV camera footage will be scanned to know who has taken the infant.”
Later in the day, the police rescued the infant from Sahaspita village near Ghantapada in Boudh district and detained two persons including a woman. The detained persons are a couple from Kachermal village under Kantamal block in Boudh district.
