In a shocking incident reported from Jaleswar town in Odisha’s Balasore district, a minor girl was allegedly raped by a neighbour while she was alone at home. The incident, which occurred on July 20, came to light after the victim’s family filed a complaint at the Amardaaroad police outpost on Tuesday.
According to the complaint, the accused, identified as Karunakar Behera, entered the house in the absence of the girl's family members and allegedly committed the crime. The survivor initially remained silent, but the matter surfaced after she confided in her family.
Acting on the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Meanwhile, the accused has been detained and is currently under police custody for interrogation.
Police officials confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and the survivor has been sent for medical examination. The incident has triggered public outrage in the locality, with residents demanding strict action against the accused.
