A student from Myanmar who was allegedly kidnapped by miscreants from Shantiniketan in West Bengal was rescued safely from Odisha with the help of local police, reports said. Medinipur police with the assistance from local police in Balasore rescued the student.
At least 12 persons have been arrested in connection with the incident. All the accused were nabbed following intense mobile phone tracking and examination of CCTV footages.
The rescued student is a Myanmar national and was doing his PhD at Visva Bharati in Shantiniketan. Though the exact reason behind the kidnapping of the student is unclear, it is suspected that the incident could be the fallout of some monetary dispute.
Of the total 12 arrested accused, three persons hail from Dubarajpur and eight are from east Medinipur area, police said.
