While the mystery surrounding the suicide of aspiring model Soumya Ranjan Panigrahi is yet to be unfolded, the Orissa High Court on Wednesday directed the DCP, Bhubaneswar to take action within the next three weeks on the allegations made by the deceased’s family.
Taking cognizance of the allegation made by Soumya's family members, the Court also directed the DCP to inform and update the family members about the actions taken by the police.
"Sister of the deceased had moved the HC after police didn't take any step even 23 days after the suicide. Hearing her plea, the Court today directed the police to take action as per law within three weeks time," said the petitioner’s lawyer, Byomkesh Tripathy.
Soumya was found hanging at his residence in Nandanvihar area of the Capital city in January this year. A handwritten note, presumed to be the suicide note, was then recovered from his room.
In the letter, he had accused a girl, with whom he was into a relationship for the past several months, for his death. Sources said Soumya had met the girl at a city-based gym and their relationship blossomed.
The couple had even planned to marry but due to some reasons, Soumya’s relationship with the girl turned sour. Later, he found that his girlfriend had developed closeness with another youth and it became unbearable for him.
