Mob ransacks police vehicle, attacks cops in Odisha’s Binika

Tension ran high at Papi village under Binika Police limits in Sonepur district after villagers on Wednesday allegedly ransacked a police vehicle and attacked cops who had gone to rescue some dacoits held hostage by the locals.

Alleging that the police personnel are giving protection to criminals instead of public, the irate mob went berserk and attacked the police team. Two ASIs have been injured in the attack.

The locals alleged that they had detained three youths while they were planning to commit a dacoity on Tuesday. Though the matter was brought to the notice of concerned police officials, nobody came to the village. When a police team reached the spot today, the villagers confronted the cops when they were trying to hold discussions with them.

Police later rescued the three detained youths and admitted them to the hospital. A total of 11 persons have also been detained in connection with the attack on the police team.
