Bayalish Mouza police station on Tuesday arrested five persons including some staff of a private hospital in Cuttack on the charges of siphoning off government assistance under the Odisha government’s flagship programme- the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY).
As per the allegations, the concerned staff of the private hospital ‘South Point’ along with some middlemen were allegedly withdrawing lakhs of rupees by creating false bills without admitting patients. The actual card holders or the beneficiaries were handed over a paltry amount of Rs 2,000 each while the accused claimed lakhs of rupees from the state government towards treatment.
The entire fraud was allegedly committed by the concerned hospital staff in connivance with middlemen by luring actual BSKY card holders.
“Bayalish Mouza police have arrested five persons after allegations of misutilisisation of the BSKY cards came to the fore. The patients, who were not actually ill, were registered and through false bills, money was siphoned off,” said Cuttack DCP Pinak Mishra. According to Mishra, the hospital administrator and some brokers have been arrested in connection with the fraud.
