While the Gopalpur gang-rape case remains fresh in the minds of people, another disturbing incident has surfaced in Ganjam district, raising serious concerns about the safety of minor girls.

An 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth in a village under the jurisdiction of Golanthara police station near Berhampur.

According to police sources, the accused, a youth from the same locality, lured the minor out of her home and allegedly committed the crime after taking her to a secluded area. The victim’s family, upon learning about the incident, lodged a formal complaint with the local police.

Acting promptly, the Golanthara police arrested the accused and initiated legal proceedings. Both the survivor and the accused have undergone medical examination as part of the investigation process. The accused will be produced before the court today.

The incident has triggered fresh outrage among local residents and child rights groups as they are demanding stringent action against the perpetrator.

With the Gopalpur case still under investigation, this fresh incident has once again brought focus on the need for better enforcement of child protection laws and community vigilance.

Senior police officials have assured that the investigation is being conducted with utmost seriousness and that a charge sheet will be filed at the earliest to ensure speedy justice for the victim.
