In a heart-rending incident, a minor girl died while undergoing treatment at the Sohela Health Centre in Odisha’s Bargarh district. While the exact reason for her death is yet to be ascertained, family alleged the victim was brutally raped before being murdered.
The police have detained a youth, suspected to be her ‘kidnapper’, who had admitted the victim to the hospital.
Background of the Incident:
According to sources, the victim had been to her maternal uncle’s house when she mysteriously went missing on May 28. After failing to know her whereabouts, her family had lodged a missing persons’ complaint with the Sohela police.
Since then, the police have been on the lookout for her. Her family had also failed to contact her. Later, they learnt that she was admitted to the Sohela health centre. However, the victim was declared dead on arrival by the attending medical officer.
This distressing event has sparked widespread calls for justice amidst a backdrop of collective mourning and anger from the community.
