The case pertains to alleged corruption in the closure of investigations related to mining operations. The CBI had been monitoring Raghuvanshi’s activities for some time based on credible intelligence inputs. It is believed that he was negotiating a deal with some mine operators to settle the matter in exchange for a hefty bribe.

While the arrest of such a senior ED officer raises serious concerns about corruption within premier investigative bodies, both the CBI and ED have so far refrained from issuing official statements regarding the incident.
