In a shocking case of armed robbery, miscreants looted gold ornaments worth around Rs 50 lakh from a house at Dahisada village under the Soro police limits of Balasore district late Sunday night.
According to sources, the daring heist took place at the residence of one Jnanendra Upadhyay. The incident occurred during the late hours when the family members were inside the house. Around five unidentified robbers allegedly broke into the house by smashing the rear door and gained entry while the residents were asleep.
What followed was a scene straight out of a movie— the robbers brandished firearms and threatened two family members at gunpoint. Tying them up to prevent resistance, the criminals searched the house thoroughly and decamped with gold jewellery estimated to be worth Rs 50 lakh, along with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The victims were left terrified and helpless as the robbers fled the scene under the cover of darkness. After the robbers escaped, the family alerted the local police, who reached the spot and launched an investigation.
A forensic team was also brought in to collect evidence, and efforts are underway to trace the culprits. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined to establish the escape route and identify the accused.
The daring nature of the robbery and the use of firearms have raised serious concerns over the law and order situation in the area. Locals have demanded increased night patrolling and immediate arrest of the culprits.
Soro police have registered a case and assured that all possible leads are being followed to bring the perpetrators to justice. Further investigation is in progress.
