Bouncer injured in firing in Bhubaneswar
A shocking incident of gun violence shook Odisha’s capital city late last night when an unidentified miscreant opened fire outside a popular bar in the Damana Square area of Chandrasekharpur in Bhubaneswar, critically injuring a bouncer. The incident has raised serious questions about the law and order situation in the city, particularly in nightlife zones.
According to reports, the firing took place in front of a bar, located near Damana Square, where a scuffle broke out between the assailant and the bouncers on duty. The situation escalated quickly, leading the accused to fire five rounds in public view. One of the bar's bouncers, identified as Suriya, sustained serious injuries in the attack.
Sources indicate that Suriya was struck by three bullets in his leg and one in the head. He was immediately rescued by police from Chandrasekharpur Police Station, who reached the scene promptly after being alerted by locals and bar staff. The injured bouncer was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment in a critical condition.
Initial investigation suggests that the alleged attacker is a youth named Siba Patra from the Puri area. Eyewitnesses reported that following the indiscriminate firing, the accused fled the scene, taking advantage of the chaos. The motive behind the firing remains unclear, but police suspect it could be the result of a personal enmity or a confrontation that escalated.
Chinmay Dey, a witness said, “There is a group of Siba Patra and Badal Swain in Bhubaneswar and they were entering the club. There was some dispute between themselves. When our security opposed them, they left the spot. They again returned again and opened fire at him. I was present in the club. The injured has been admitted to the hospital.”
The Chandrasekharpur Police have launched a manhunt for the accused and begun an extensive investigation. Forensic teams have collected evidence from the scene, including empty bullet shells, and CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being analyzed to trace the attacker’s movements.
The Commissionerate Police has increased patrolling around nightlife establishments in Bhubaneswar following the incident. The crime has sparked fear among local residents and bar-goers, with many calling for tighter security and more stringent checks at public entertainment venues.
