Malkangiri Police on Monday claimed to have successfully cracked a gruesome murder case a week after the body of a young woman was recovered from the dense forest near Rengabandh village. The shocking incident has sent ripples across the region, as details reveal a tale of love, betrayal, and a cold-blooded crime.
Background Of The Shocking Case
The deceased was a young woman from Martunda village, who was reportedly in a relationship with Umesh Nag, a youth from Pandum village in neighbouring Chhattisgarh. Their relationship had been ongoing for a year. As per police reports, the woman had recently become pregnant, which led to rising tensions between the couple.
Upon learning about the pregnancy, Umesh allegedly persuaded her to undergo medical tests at the Malkangiri District Headquarters Hospital and insisted on terminating the pregnancy. However, the woman refused to abort the child and expressed her desire to get married instead.
Frustrated and unwilling to accept her decision, Umesh allegedly plotted a heinous plan. He lured the woman to a remote area near Chalanguda village, close to the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, under the pretext of resolving the matter. There, in a moment of brutal betrayal, he allegedly attacked her with a stone, killing her on the spot. After committing the murder, he dumped her body deep inside the Rengabandh forest and fled the scene.
The woman was reported missing, and her body was discovered days later, triggering a police investigation. After thorough inquiry, evidence pointed to Umesh as the prime suspect. Acting swiftly, the Malkangiri Police tracked him down and arrested him, bringing a sense of closure to the grieving family.
Further Probe Underway
Police officials confirmed that Umesh Nag is now in custody and further interrogation is underway. The case has sparked outrage among local residents, who are demanding strict punishment for the accused. Authorities have assured that justice will be delivered swiftly, and the investigation will proceed with full transparency.
