Northern Range DIG Deepak Kumar on Saturday claimed that the investigation onto the sensational murder of the Kalahandi lady teacher Mamata Meher is on the right track.
Kumar’s claims comes at a time when the State is witnessing unprecedented public outrage and massive protest by political parties over demands for the ouster and arrest of the Minister of State (Home) Dibya Shankar Mishra for his alleged links with the prime accused in the murder, Gobinda Sahu, the managing committee president of Mahaling English Medium College where the victim worked.
The DIG said while statements of 10 witnesses have so far been recorded under Section 164 of CrPC, police have recorded statements of over 100 witnesses under Section 161 of CrPC.
On allegations that the police deliberately delayed in filing the case diary, he said a case was lodged on October 13 and, within 24 hours it was uploaded on CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems). However, due to holiday on October 13, 14 and 15, the case diary was filed in the court on October 16. Besides, every minute detail of the crime scene recreation is there in CD, claimed the Northern Range DIG.
"At this stage, we have some scientific reports that support our witnesses' statement and prosecution. We are conducting the investigation with utmost sincerity and best of our professional capabilities," he said.
Every document that we will produce before the court, that will be subjected to judicial scrutiny, said Kumar ading, "We will definitely get conviction in this case."
Earlier in the day, senior BJP leader Bijay Mohapatra had alleged tardy probe in the Mamita Meher murder case. Mohapatra had also asked why police took three days to file the case diary in Bangomunda SDJM court when the FIR was already registered on October 13. He had also alleged an attempt by police to weaken the case against Gobinda Sahu in those three days.
