In a new method of illicit liquor smuggling, bootleggers have been found selling country-made liquor disguised in cold drink bottles. The illegal operation, which aimed to bypass authorities and mislead consumers, was busted by the Excise Department in a surprise raid at Ghatikia area in Bhubaneswar on Friday.
According to reports, smugglers were packing liquor into soft drink bottles and distributing them to unsuspecting customers. This unique tactic was intended to evade detection and continue the illicit trade under the guise of regular beverages. However, acting on a tip-off, the Excise Department's enforcement team set up a strategic ambush and caught the smugglers red-handed while they were transporting the contraband.
Smugglers Used Code Word ‘Desi Cold Drink’
The operation was successfully conducted in the Ghatikia area of Bhubaneswar, where a significant quantity of illegally packed liquor was seized. Officials have launched an investigation to trace the entire supply chain and identify the mastermind behind this new method of smuggling.
Authorities have warned that such illegal activities pose a serious health hazard, as unregulated liquor can be contaminated and dangerous for consumption.
Further actions are expected against those involved in this racket, as officials intensify their crackdown on illicit liquor operations in the region.
