A foreign-liquor outlet in Gadadeulia village, under Baisinga police limits, was burgled late on Friday night, with thieves making off with stock valued at more than Rs 9 lakh. The gang broke open nine heavy locks on the shop’s front shutter and iron grill before carting away dozens of cases of premium spirits.
Store left secure, then ransacked by morning
Owner Sarbeshwar Das told police that the manager and staff had shut the shop as usual after completing their shift last night. When employees returned on Saturday morning, they found the shutter hanging loose, its padlocks sheared, and shelves stripped nearly bare.
CCTV disabled and hard disk stolen
Preliminary inspection revealed that the intruders first disconnected the closed-circuit television system and then removed the hard disk, erasing crucial video evidence. Investigators believe the operation was meticulously planned to avoid identification.
At least six to eight thieves involved
“From the number of liquor cartons removed and the tools used to cut through multiple locks, we estimate that a group of six to eight people was involved,” a senior police officer said. Police suspect the gang used a pick-up van or another light-goods vehicle to transport the stolen stock quickly out of the area.
A forensic squad collected fingerprints and tool-mark impressions, while a dog squad followed possible escape routes from the scene. Officers also canvassed nearby shops and residences for eyewitness accounts or private CCTV footage that might have captured vehicle movements during the night.
