A lady sarpanch and her husband have been critically injured after they were allegedly attacked by a former sarpanch and supporters in Chaskhand panchayat in Jajpur district. The lady sarpanch, Pratibha Mallick and her husband were thrashed by ex-sarpanch’s husband and her family members following a dispute over laying of pipeline under Basudha scheme.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening. It is said that that the attack is the fallout of the ongoing political rivalry between the two families which is continuing since the last panchayat election. The incident occurred when the ex- sarpanch’s husband opposed the laying of pipeline of a particular size.
On getting call from SDO, the lady sarpanch Pratibha Mallick and her husband rushed to the spot. It was then that they were brutally beaten up.
Following the incident, the lady sarpanch and her husband were first taken to Mangalpur community health centre and later shifted to the district headquarters hospital. The ex-sarpanch could not be contacted over the allegations.
Meanwhile, police have started an investigation into the matter.
