Kolkata triple murder: Successful business to Rs 16 crore debt! Shocking reasons for downfall
The triple murders and alleged attempted suicides in Kolkata have sent shockwaves across the country. Reports now suggest that a Rs 16 crore debt could have led to the brutal murders. Kolkata Police may have unraveled the mystery surrounding the shocking murders, but more shocking reports are emerging in the complex case.
Background of the Case:
In a chilling testimony to police, two brothers – Prasun and Pranay Dey – lived with their wives in their Tangra home. Both brothers had a 15-year-old son and a 14-year-old daughter, respectively, who also lived with them. The Deys were under a debt of Rs 16 crore and hence decided to kill themselves.
The Suicide Pact:
As per the alleged plan, the whole family of six people decided to have ‘payesh’ (rice pudding) with sleeping pills on Feb 17. However, all of them woke up alive. So, they decided to make another plan to die. That’s when they came up with Plan B and decided to kill each other.
Shockingly, the innocent minor children did not know anything about their family’s plan.
Prasun and his wife first smothered their daughter using a pillow. He smothered her while his wife aided him by holding her feet. He then helped his wife slit her wrists. When she did not die after slitting her wrist, he then slit her throat. He then went on to kill his sister-in-law in the same manner, while Pranay kept his son on the upper floor.
Later that night, as per their plan, the two brothers took their son and went out on a ride at around 3 am. They had decided to crash their vehicle and die in the accident. However, they luckily survived with injuries, and it was this accident that led to the complex case and the recovery of the bodies of the female members of the family.
Lavish Lifestyle Led to Debts:
According to police sources, though their father had established a successful business, Pranay and Prasun indulged in extravagant spending instead of focusing on business growth. Despite financial difficulties, the family maintained a lavish lifestyle, including frequent foreign trips.
“Overall, they had a debt of Rs 16 crore. Their house was mortgaged, and there was no money in their bank accounts. They owned three cars, and the EMIs of two cars were due… close to Rs 47 lakh,” informed Rupesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime.
