The battle cry for justice to the murdered Kalahandi Mahaling Sunshine School teacher Mamita Meher saw a major development on Tuesday as her parents moved the Orissa High Court seeking completion of the probe into her sensational murder case in a stipulated time.
Citing displeasure over the police investigation into the case so far, parents of the deceased lady teacher have informed the court that the inordinate delay in completion of the probe has put overwhelming mental pressure on them.
The family members of the victim filed a petition in the Court making the State Home Secretary, the Police DG, the Bolangir Collector & SP apart from Sindhekela IIC parties in the case. They have also prayed before the Court for fastracking of the case.
Speaking in this connection to OTV, senior lawyer Pitambar Acharya said that the writ petition filed by Mamita's parents shows that all is not well in the probe into Mamita murder case even though senior officials of the police have denied any shortcomings.
Acharya further said that Mamita's parents' move to High Court seemed to indicate presence of veiled pressure on the part of the government to finish the probe as soon as possible to give a leeway for minister Dibya Shankar Mishra to escape the charges levelled against his name.
"In cases where any big name from the government or the ruling political flank feature in sensitive cases like murder, the entire machinery hurries to protect its image at all cost and this is what seems to be happening in the case of Mamita Meher murder case," said Mishra.
As far the main accused is concerned, I don't think any significant admissible evidence has been found against him perpertrating the crime, he added.
The senior BJP leader further saod that for an investigation to proceed smoothly, there are certain protocols for example a time-frame of 120 days to file the chargesheet but I think the manner of haste in fastracking investigation in this case might actually weaken the probe.
On the other hand, Minister of State (Home) Dibya Shankar Mishra has once again rebuffed all the allegations on having links with the case and the murder prime accused Gobinda Sahu.
Addressing a public meeting in Kalahandi, Mishra claimed his innocence and said his name has been intentionally dragged into the case by weaving fictional story.
The probe authorities have wronged all theories put against me and I hope that what is right will prevail and the real culprit(s) will get due punishment, the minister spoke during the event.
Mishra claimed that he did not make any statements in the case at the first hand before the police investigation considering he is the minister of the concerned Home department.
