The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) on Saturday busted a job fraud racket by arresting the mastermind of the racket from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh. The racket allegedly duped as many as 50,000 aspirants in five state including Odisha.

The EOW in a press note informed that the arrested accused, Zafar Ahmed (25), a resident of Aligarh, is an engineer (B Tech) by profession. 

While the racket was functioning from Aligarh, it duped aspirants of Gujarat, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Odisha through a fake government website.

From early estimates, the EOW came to know that at least 50,000 job seekers have been duped. During investigation, the EOW also found it out that the racket was being run by a highly tech savvy engineer from Uttar Pradesh with the help of some expert website developers. 

This apart, employees of around 50 call centres were also assisting the racket. They were working on a monthly salary of Rs 15,000.

The racket members were extremely clever and anticipated every move of the police/ Law enforcement department. In order to avoid being caught, they never used their personal phones. More than 1000 fake SIMs and 530 mobile phones were used in the racket. 

The modus operandi of the racket was to develop website resembling government websites displaying job advertisements to attract job seekers.
