Unidentified miscreants allegedly looted gold and silver ornaments worth over Rs 25 lakh from a jeweller in Keonjhar district on Tuesday night.

As per initial reports, the incident occurred around 9 pm yesterday when Hiranmayee Sahoo, the owner of Om Jewellers, was on his way to his residence with his son, carrying bags filled with gold jewellery after closing the shop.

Six masked miscreants intercepted them, some 100 metres from the store, and allegedly looted the jewellery-laden bags. The miscreants also assaulted the father and son duo and even terrorised them at gunpoint.

Following the swift heist, the culprits made their escape on two motorcycles, heading towards Karanjia road.

“I was travelling on a motorcycle and carrying bags filled with jewellery worth around Rs 25 to Rs 30 lakh. The miscreants came and looted the valuables. My elder son tried to chase the miscreants, but they fled,” alleged Sahoo.

Following the incident, Champua police have launched an investigation into the high-profile robbery, acting upon the information provided by the victim. 

This incident has raised security concerns within the area, prompting discussions on enhancing safety measures for local businesses.
