One person suffered bullet injury on his leg after an unidentified bike-borne miscreant shot at him in a suspected loot bid on Sunday night. The incident occurred in Janla market under Info Valley police limits on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
The injured man has been identified as Lokanath Subuddhi, who is a jeweller. His father Bhagaban Subuddhi also suffered injuries in the attack. Hearing their cries for help, local people came to their rescue and rushed them to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar.
While it is yet to be ascertained whether the miscreants succeeded in their attempt or not, the Janla police have started an investigation into the incident.
Report says, Bhagaban and his son Lokanath, residents of Dakhinamunda Muhan village under Info Valley police limits, run a jewellery shop in Janla market. Like any other day, they were returning home after closing their shop on Sunday night. At a deserted place, a miscreant waylaid them and attempted to loot the jewellery bag they carried with them.
When the father-son duo resisted, the miscreant opened fire at them and fled the spot. The incident, which is the second such incident after the area was put under newly-founded Info Valley police station, has triggered anger among the residents.
“When our village was under Jatni police limits, there used to be frequent patrolling. No such crimes were reported earlier. Now with our village being put under Info Valley police limits, loot cases are increasing as the new police station is short-staffed,” said a resident of Dakhinamunda Muhan village, Krushna Mohan Subuddhi.
Another resident Pradeep Patnaik also ascribed the increasing crime cases to the staff-starved Info Valley police station.
In this regard, no reaction has so far been received from Info Valley police station.
