A senior official of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in Chandipur, who was arrested on Friday for allegedly sharing sensitive information with a Pakistani agent, was sent to four-day police remand on Saturday.
Baburam Dey (57), who worked as a senior technical officer at ITR Chandipur, was arrested on the charges of leaking confidential information to a Pakistani spy. According to police, Dey was honey-trapped by the Pakistani agent with nude videos.
Today, Balasore SDJM court allowed the police to take Dey on a four-day remand.
Currently, the police are searching his house and property and tracing people who had links with him. Further probe is on to learn if anyone is aware of the honey-trap episode. Moreover, the police are also investigating the source of money found from Dey and if anyone else is involved in leaking sensitive information from the ITR.
The accused has been booked under offences for breaching The Official Secrets Act with IPC sections 120A and 120B (criminal conspiracy).
"The court has granted four-day remand. We will bring him in for further interrogation. Our primary goal is to find out about financial transactions if any. Prima facie, it has been found that he has accounts with SBI and Axis banks. We have requested the respective banks to share his account details,” said Sagarika Nath, Balasore SP.
Further, Nath said, “As he is a resident of Jaleswar, we have requested the concerned tehsildar to give details about the land properties in his or any of his family members’ name. During the four-day remand, we will try to find out if there were any financial transactions.”
