Gold trader, wife critical after ‘thief’ attacks them with sharp weapon in Berhampur

A gold trader and his wife are battling for life at hospital after they were allegedly attacked by a thief who had sneaked into their home in the wee hours on Wednesday.

The incident has been reported from Gaudasahi area under Bada Bazar police limits in Berhampur. Initial reports say that the thief gained entry into the residence of the gold trader, identified as Satish Kumar Subudhi, between 4 am to 5 am today by cutting iron grill.

It is suspected that the miscreant had entered the house with an intention to loot. On hearing some noise, Satish and his wife woke up and spotted the intruder. Within no time, the miscreant allegedly attacked Satish with a sharp weapon and later attacked his wife who tried to save him and fled the spot.

Following the incident, the couple was rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital and their condition is said to be stable. Meanwhile, police have started an investigation into the incident.
