A girl has been accused of conning a youth and fleeing with jewellery and cash on the pretext of marriage. This incident reported from Ralaba village in Ganjam district is no less than a plot of a Bollywood movie.
The duped youth, identified as Sishir Kumar Sarangi, has lodged a formal complaint in connection with the cheating and sought the intervention of Berhampur SP.
As per reports, the girl along with her family had moved into the same building where Sishir was staying on rent some four months back. Later, Sishir developed a relationship with the girl. Subsequently, on the consent of both the families, the marriage date was fixed (April 28) and invitation cards were also printed.
As the girl’s family was not financially sound, Sishir reportedly paid her Rs 1 lakh to make necessary arrangements for the marriage function.
“We had purchased some gold ornaments for the marriage. On April 25, the girl’s family came and asked us to give some gold ornaments as they were planning to visit their relatives’ place for inviting them to the marriage. We had handed over the gold ornaments as everything was finalised for marriage. We waited for them till April 26 and failed to contact them over phone after that,” alleged Sishir.
Berhampur ASP Aseem Panda, “The youth has lodged a complaint. We have registered a case and started investigation into the matter. Appropriate legal action will be taken after probe.”
