An engineering student was allegedly abducted and beaten black and blue by miscreants in Bhubaneswar on Monday. He was later rescued from a crematorium ground at Jatni in the midnight.

According to sources, the victim identified as Uttam Kumar Sarangi belongs to Rourkela. A few bike-borne miscreants forcibly picked him up from college campus and took him to a deserted place at Jatni.  They dumped him at a crematorium ground after beating him black and blue.

Police, meanwhile, arrested a second year B.Tech student identified as Nitish in this connection.

The victim said, “I was returning from a birthday party when some miscreants attacked me out of nowhere. In the process, I received severe injuries in my head. They later took me to a deserted place and assaulted me. When my seniors came to know about it, they rescued me from crematorium ground.”

Last year, a college student was allegedly kidnapped and tortured by miscreants for Rs 7000. He was at the Patia petrol pump when four miscreants whisked him away after covering his face with a black cloth. They then took him to an abandoned house. However, he managed to escape from clutches of the miscreants.
