The CID, Crime Branch will now probe the mysterious death of a person whose was allegedly beaten by police team to death in Kandhamal district. The deceased has been identified as Jyestha Bandaki.

Crime Branch DSP Rajat Ray will conduct an investigation into the incident. Earlier action was taken against some police officials of Gochhapada police station following allegations against police in the death of Jyestha.

Jyestha’s body was found near Danganamu ghat under Gochapada police station on September 26. It was alleged that he was a ganja smuggler and his body was dumped after being killed by cops. On September 26, he along with his friend were allegedly smuggling contraband and liquor on his motorbike when they were chased by Kandhamal Police.

It was alleged that the cops mowed down their motorbike, leaving them seriously injured.

While his friend managed to escape, Jyestha was caught and beaten up brutally by the cops, resulting in his death. Later, the cops dumped his body near the ghat and fled.

On October 2, the Kandhamal SP suspended two cops and terminated three home guards in connection with the incident.
