A couple was allegedly murdered at Tunguru village under R Udaygiri police limits in Gajapati district. The deceased have been identified as Chaitanya Mandal and his wife Urjani.
The couple was staying in a small hut built on the hill. It is suspected that both were brutally killed on Tuesday night. While one of the bodies was recovered inside the hut another body was found at a distance, sources said.
It is suspected that the couple has been killed over some past rivalry. As per reports, Chaitanya used to treat diseases using some herbs and other articles. The locals suspected it to be some ‘witchcraft’. However, the exact reason why the couple has been killed is yet to be ascertained.
On getting information, police officials reached the spot and started an investigation into the matter.
“So far we have not got any clues. No allegation has been made by the son of the deceased couple. A forensic team has also visited the spot and further investigation has begun,” said Sabyasachi Malla, IIC of R Udaygiri police station.
