In a major development in Bhubaneswar ‘Love Jihad’ case, the Commissionerate Police on Sunday claimed to have intensified its probe into the sensitive matter. The cops are trying to establish whether the accused Md Samir Mansoor has any links with terror outfits.
Speaking to media in Bhubaneswar, Twin City Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Datta Singh said, “Based on the allegation of online cheating, threatening and blackmailing by a woman, we have launched a probe and arrested one Md Samir Mansoor in connection with the case.”
“During investigation, it is found that he might be a resident of Bihar and works in Kashmir. To verify the primary information, the Commissionerate Police is in touch with Bihar and Kashmir police. We have prayed the court for his remand,” Singh added.
As part of the investigation, the background check of the accused and his involvement in similar digital frauds and crime records in other states will be verified. A lady Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) has been entrusted with the responsibility of carrying out necessary verification, the top cop informed.
On Saturday, the accused Samir Mansoor was arrested by Commissionerate Police after a woman filed a complaint against him at Mahila Police Station in Bhubaneswar accusing that he forced her to undergo religious conversion and marry him.
The man also allegedly threatened the victim to upload video clips of their intimate moments on the internet.
Based on the complaint filed by the victim, the police registered a case and nabbed Mansoor while he was trying to leave Odisha by train. Mansoon claimed that he hails from Bihar and was presently staying in Kashmir.
