The Commissionerate Police on Friday claimed to have cracked the case in which unidentified miscreants had looted around Rs 11 lakh from two businessmen near the Pitapali area on March 31, 2024.
At a presser, Twin City Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda informed that four accused involved in the crime have been arrested and cash worth over Rs 9 lakh has been recovered from their possession.
As per reports, four miscreants in three bikes had looted the cash from the businessmen when they were on their way towards the Pitapali area.
“Following the loot, a case was registered and a special team under the supervision of the Bhubaneswar DCP was formed. Subsequently, all the four accused involved in the loot case have been arrested with recovery of bulk of the stolen amount,” said Panda.
According to Panda, one of the accused Somnath Jena, is convicted in a murder case and is currently on bail. Similarly, another accused Dipti Ranjan Baliarsingh has several cases pending against him.
The senior police official informed that the businessmen used to supply lower denomination currency notes and coins to several business establishments. They used to get larger denomination currency notes exchanged in banks and used to procure small denomination notes and coins.
