The Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Commissionerate Police has arrested the mastermind of a racket involved in ganja smuggling to Mumbai.
The arrested accused has been identified as Rahul Sethi.
Interestingly enough, Rahul was arrested from Jharpada jail where he had gone to meet his associates, who are lodged in the prison.

As marijuana grown in the Chitrakonda area in Malkangiri district is reportedly in high demand in other states, Rahul was earning quick bucks by procuring the contraband and branding it as Chitrakonda Ganja. He would purchase the contraband at Rs 5000 a kilogram and sell it at Rs 50,000 a kilogram in Delhi, Mumbai, Jharkhand and Bihar.
On February 11, the Special Crime Unit of the Commissionerate Police led by DCP Sanjeev Satpathy had a face-off with a gang of drug smugglers between Pahal and Pitapalli. During the operation, the cops arrested three persons and seized three quintals of ganja worth Rs 30 lakh stashed in a car. Two cars were also seized from the crime scene.
However, the mastermind of the racket, Rahul managed to give the cops the slip. He had since been absconding.
His luck ran out on Thursday when he had gone to Jharpada jail to meet his associates. The officers of the Special Crime Unit nabbed him there.
ACP Sarat Sahu said, “His associates are lodged in Jharpada jail. He had visited the jail to meet them. Our Special Crime Unit apprehended him there. A car, two mobile phones and one iPhone were seized from his possession. From his mobile phones, we have collected vital information regarding his illegal business.”
