A dead body was exhumed and handed over to family members after nearly a month of its recovery. The incident was reported from Kalyanpur Bairibag village under Binjharpur block in Jajpur district on Saturday.
Sources said, Kartik Rana of Bairibag village went missing on June 15. The family members launched a frantic search for him at every possible place. After not finding him, they lodged a missing report with the police.
The next day, his body was found floating in a pond in Jajpur. The police fished out the body and reportedly buried it as the identity of the deceased couldn’t be ascertained.
Back in Bairibag village, Kartik’s father came to know about Jajpur Police having buried an unidentified body in Jajpur. He took the matter up with the police.
On the basis of the complaint of the victim's father, the police had to exhume Kartik’s body and handed it over to family members. The bereaved family received the body after nearly a month of its recovery.
On the other hand, the family members also alleged that Kartik was murdered.
“Two of his (Kartik’s) friends-Vicky and Chandan Sahu - took him to Jajpur and murdered him. After committing the crime, they threw the body into a pond. I don’t know where and how they did it,” alleged a relative of the deceased.
No reaction from the police could be obtained.
