A senior BJP leader and Rayagada MLA candidate Basanta Kumar Ullaka narrowly escaped an alleged murder bid after his supporters reached in the nick of time. The attackers fled after seeing his supporters, leaving Basant unharmed.
Sources said the incident occurred while the Odisha BJP leader was sitting inside the local party office, located at Vidyanagar. Meanwhile, some miscreants armed with swords and other sharp-edged weapons, believed to be pre-planned, came from nowhere and tried to storm the office and attack Basanta.
The attackers vandalized the office and tried to barge in by breaking open the door. They completely damaged the door and were about to enter inside office when his supporters reached in the nick of time. Lucky for Basanta, the miscreants fled the scene after seeing his supporters.
The exact motive behind the attempted attack remains unclear, as authorities are still investigating the matter. The incident sparked tension in the area, leading the police to detain two suspects. Authorities have confiscated a sword from the individuals.
Basanta Ullaka demanded a thorough investigation to uncover the truth behind this incident.
“I was sitting in the house when the attackers armed with swords and other sharp-edged weapons reached here. They vandalized the house and even tried to break in by breaking the door. I don’t know why they had tried to attack me, but they ran away after my supporters reached on time,” alleged Basant Ullaka, Rayagada BJP leader.
He further added, “I face a threat to my life. So, I demand a thorough probe and immediate arrest of the miscreants.”
