In a major twist to the sensational murder case of woman traffic constable Shubhamitra, the investigation has been elevated to the ‘Red Flag’ category, further tightening the net around prime accused Deepak Raut.

Crime Branch sources confirmed that the probe will now be conducted under the direct supervision of the Crime Branch DGP. The agency will also provide crucial support to the Commissionerate Police. Additionally, all evidence and inputs earlier collected by the Capital Police Station and Khuntuni Police Station will be thoroughly re-examined to strengthen the investigation.

The Crime Branch has also decided to link the suspicious death of Aparna, Deepak Raut’s first wife, with the Shubhamitra murder case for a comprehensive, high-level inquiry.

Notably, Shubhamitra went missing on September 6, and on September 17, her decomposed body was recovered from Keonjhar district. With growing public outrage, the case has now been placed under special monitoring, with the CAW and CW unit also set to oversee the investigation.

What is A Red Flag Case

According to Amaresh Panda, a retired senior police officer, the case is being treated as a Red Flag, which means the charge sheet will be submitted within 60 days after registration of the FIR. Once the charge sheet is submitted, the marshalling officer will ensure the timely appearance of the prosecution witnesses before the court.
