Tension prevailed at 42 Mouza area in Cuttack on Friday following death of a man on Thursday after being burnt along with his two other family members in a house, allegedly locked up and set on fire by miscreants.
The family and friends of Ramesh Mallik, who lost his life while under treatment at SCB Hospital, resorted to road blockade over alleged arsoning of the three.
As per reports, unidentified miscreants had locked up Ramesh, his wife and son, inside their home at Manibada in Cuttack’s 42 Mouja on last Friday (Apr 1) night and set the house on fire.
Locals and neighbours rescued the three from the blazing house and shifted them to the SCB Hospital for treatment, where Ramesh Mallik succumbed to burn injuries on Thursday night. The other two are said to be in critical condition and still under treatment.
The aggrieved family members of Ramesh alleged that despite an FIR at the police station, the cops have been unable to trace the culprits behind the crime.
Speaking to the reporters, “A relative of Mallik said, “We want the culprits to be arrested soon. It has been eight days, but the police has got no clues on the crime whatsoever.”
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Zone-4, Cuttack, Chandan Ghadai said, “An FIR has already been lodged. The forensic team and other senior officers have also inspected the spot. We are awaiting the forensic report after which we will proceed in our probe.”
Meanwhile, the family members have alleged past enmity over a love affair behind the arsoning incident.
