In another instance of collecting huge bucks by promising fake government jobs, two persons were arrested by the Kharvelnagar police in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. The duo had collected over Rs1crore on the pretext of providing jobs in the Postal department.
The accused have been identified as Debi Prasad Biswal, a native of Jajpur district, and Subhendu Jena, a resident of Bhubaneswar. The police have recovered a large number of fake appointment letters and seals of the postal department. Jena had assisted Biswal in making fake documents and seals.
As per Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Das, Biswal is a habitual offender as many cheating cases are pending in Jajpur Sadar police station, Chandrasekharpur police station and Sahidnagar police station. “We suspect many more victims,” Das added.
Police said the accused had collected Rs 25 lakh from one Balaram and his two brothers, promising them jobs in the postal department. Later, they had sent fake appointment letters to the victims. They had even asked them to come to the Post Master General’s office in Bhubaneswar for training. As directed, the victims arrived at the PMG’s office but the fake job givers - Biswal and Jena - went incommunicado. Smelling rat, they lodged a complaint at Kharavela Nagar police station. After registering a case, the police had launched an investigation.
The accused were produced in court on Wednesday. The police will seek their remand to unravel their modus operandi, said sources.
