Odisha is unlikely to bear the brunt of a possible third wave of Covid-19 pandemic, said director of Health Services Bijay Mohapatra on Monday.
Speaking to reporters, Mohapatra said, “Even though the daily infection graph in the State has witnessed a marginal spike in the last few days, the situation in Odisha is better than other States.”
“As per the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) director, around 73 percent people in Odisha have developed antibody against Covid-19. This is a very good sign that people from all sections including in villages are developing antibodies,” he added.

He said, “The vaccination drive has worked well. Moreover, the Sero survey has revealed that there is no difference between Covishield and Covaxin vaccines.”
Earlier on Sunday, RMRC director Sanghamitra Pati had revealed that 73 percent people in Odisha have developed antibody. The announcement was made following Sero surveys in 12 districts of the State.
93 percent of health workers, 70 percent of children have also developed antibody, she said.
In a relief to the most affected Khordha district, 81 per cent of its denizens have developed antibody against Covid-19.
Meanwhile, Odisha reported 444 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking the cumulative tally to 1024764 on Monday.
While 258 cases were detected from quarantine, 186 were local contacts.
Of the total new positives, 59 cases of Covid-19 infections are in the age group of 0 to 18 years, tweeted the I&PR department.
Odisha has 5702 active Covid-19 cases at present while 1010829 people have recovered from the disease.
