Puri: In a bid to ease problems faced by senior citizens staying alone during Covid-19 restriction, the district police has released a dedicated helpline number for the elderly persons through which they can seek any assistance from police.
“Some senior citizens who are staying alone need assistance. We have launched a helpline number for them. We have received five calls from them through the helpline number since morning. Our team is working sincerely to assist the senior citizens,” Puri SP Kanwar Vishal Singh told OTV.
He said police administration is working hard to enforce the lockdown restrictions in the town and other areas as the number of Covid-19 cases are rising every day.

“We have enforced the covid restriction strictly in the town, Around 200 shops had been closed on charges of covid norms violation. As many as 2500 violators have been fined in last couple of days,” the SP informed.
The district police has also prepared a thorough plan for the upcoming Chandan Yatra of Lord Jagannath.
“We had recently convened a review meeting for the upcoming Chandan Yatra. We are preparing a blueprint for the festival. Special measures have been taken to avoid public gathering at Narendra Puskarini during the mega religious event.
We are in touch with the servitors and district administration. A SOP will be issued for the programme and we will work accordingly for smooth conduct of the Chandan Yatra.”, he pointed out.
The Jagannath temple administration has made elaborate arrangements for the event. The administration is also taking measures to prevent spread of the virus among servitors as a number of priests had recently tested positive.
“We are making proper planning for the entry of only authorized personnel into the event venue during the festival. Barricades will be erected to prevent entry of public,” the SP said.
Meanwhile, the district administration took note of the heavy rush at various vaccination centres in the district.
District Collector Samarth Verma said measures are being taken to avoid large congregation at vaccination sites.
“Tokens would be given to the beneficiaries from 6 am only those who are in queue. 200 tokens will be distributed. Those who obtain the token should remain in line for the inoculation and others will be sent back,” the Collector said.
