Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has left no stone unturned to initiate the ECMO (Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation ) treatment in the State at the earliest, Director of Medical Education & Training (DMET) , CBK Mohanty said on Monday.
Speaking to media, Mohanty said " The government has taken every possible measure while expediting the tender process for the procurement of the machines. Human resources required for the expensive treatment have been kept readied. We would begin the ECMO service as soon as the company delivers the machines," he said.
AIIMS-Bhubaneswar has initiated the process in November last year to install ECMO machine and launch the services. However, the Central health institute is yet to start the treatment, Mohanty added.

Speaking on the current Covid situation, the top Health official said the present dip in the number of daily cases is a matter of relief for everybody.
"We hope that the number would come down further in future. The lockdown and unlock measure is a continuous process which always depends on the number of infections and people's behaviour, " he said.
The virus mutates much frequently. So, mutation of virus is an usual affair during normal cycle. Many of the variants are effective while some others have no serious effect, he pointed out.
On the trade of fake drugs, Mohanty said there is special law to deal with the unscrupulous traders who try to do brisk business during a time of pandemic crisis.
He said the government is reviewing the Covid situation in the State. "We are following the guidelines the national task force and international bodies and WHO, based on which the unlock process would kick off." he said.
Many people have some post-covid complications including weakness, breathlessness, loss of appetite etc. “Some of the symptoms are physical while some others are psychological. People should remain mentally healthy and come back to their normal lifestyle after recovering from the disease. If any physical symptoms are found in any survivor, he/she should visit the hospital," Mohanty advised.
