Shading light on the recent report submitted by the experts’ panel committee to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the Chief of the Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET) in Odisha, Dr. CBK Mohanty on Monday said the State is fully ready to meet any kind of eventuality in case of a third wave in Covid-19 pandemic.
A panel of experts at the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs have recently submitted a report to the PMO about the possible third wave of Covid-19 pandemic in September and October.
The report has elaborated that the pandemic will probably reach its peak in October and will most likely affect the children more. In such a scenario, the paediatric facilities in the country, including doctors, staff, medical equipments like ventilators and ambulances will not be sufficient if a large number of children get infected.

However, Mohanty stated that Odisha government is taking proactive measures in establishing all infrastructure and logistics well before the time to tackle any virus outbreak.
“As the adults are gradually getting immune to the virus due to vaccination and earlier infections, the pandemic is likely to affect the children more,” he explained.
“According to the expert committee, daily Covid infections may possibly touch 4 lakh mark in India during the third wave. If it happens, daily infection in Odisha will hit 14,000 numbers. People need to be more careful than ever before and follow the Covid norms diligently to keep the third wave in check,” he added.
