While the second wave of Covid pandemic is receding in Odisha gradually, its impact on children is discernible, said chief of the Directorate of Medical Education & Training (DMET) CBK Mohanty.
“Most of the adults and youth have been vaccinated against the virus with a significant chunk of them having also developed antibodies against the infection. Hence, the pandemic is affecting children more and this is why Covid cases among kids account for 12 per cent of the total infection in the State now,” said Mohanty.
The top health official also cautioned people not to lower their guards as the pandemic has not subsided completely.

“Though there is a dip in the rate of infection, the second wave of the pandemic is still prevalent in some parts of the State. At this crucial juncture, people can’t be complacent and throw Covid norms to the wind,” he said.
Mohanty further said that Odisha Government is giving more emphasis to the health security of the children keeping in view a possible third wave of the pandemic.
“The Health Department is keeping a strong vigil on available data to analyse the prevalence of positivity among the children. The government can only ascertain about the situation after studying data over a period of week's time,” said Mohanty.
