Even though the Covid-19 cases are plummeting in other parts of the State, the virus tally in Bhubaneswar is not declining due to cluster infection in the city, opined health expert Dr Niraj Mishra on Sunday.
Speaking to the media, Mishra said, “If any one member of a family gets infected, he/she affects all family members. In that case, the concerned house or building should be sealed for Coronavirus. This will help in curbing the spread of the infection to outside.”
“Secondly, Bhubaneswar has 1.24 R-Value which means 100 patients can transmit the virus to another 124 persons. Moreover, many people are visiting Bhubaneswar for different purposes including treatment. That is also another reason behind the high caseload,” he added.

I believe the introduction of micro-containment zones will help in reducing the caseload in the State capital, Mishra stated.
Notably, as of 7 August, Bhubaneswar has 2806 active Covid-19 cases. While the State capital city has reported a total of 1,01,797 cases since the onset of the pandemic, 98,074 patients have recuperated from the infection. The virus has claimed 896 lives in the city, says the report of the State Health Department.
Similarly, Odisha on Sunday recorded 1243 new positive cases, taking the total active cases in the State to 12129. A total of 718 positives were reported from quarantine centres while 525 positives are local contact cases.
A maximum 399 cases were detected from Khordha district alone. On the other hand, the State Health department on Sunday informed death of 69 more COVID-19 patients with the maximum casualties (21) again coming from Khordha district followed by Cuttack (13) & Sambalpur (8).
