Arrests and Seizures

The arrested men have been identified as Azad Suleman Shaikh, Mohammad Suhail, and Dr Ahmed Mohiuddin Syed, a Hyderabad-based MBBS graduate from China. According to officials, Shaikh and Suhail had procured arms from Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh and hidden them in a graveyard in Gandhinagar. Mohiuddin was set to collect the cache and return to Hyderabad to execute further plans.

However, acting on a timely intelligence input, the ATS arrested Mohiuddin before he could leave. From his possession, the police seized four foreign-made pistols, 30 cartridges, and 40 litres of castor oil, believed to be used for making explosives.

Links to ISKP and Radical Activities

Investigations revealed that Mohiuddin was in contact with Abu Khadim, a key member of the Islamic State–Khorasan Province (ISKP), a regional branch of ISIS. Officials said Khadim had tasked him with raising funds and recruiting members for anti-India activities.

Gujarat ATS DIG Sunil Joshi stated, “Dr Ahmed Mohiyuddin Saiyed is highly educated, radicalised, and was conspiring to carry out major terror activities.” The probe also found that he was experimenting with cyanide-based poison.

The arrests have thwarted a potentially catastrophic terror plot. Investigations are ongoing to trace the weapons’ source and identify other possible collaborators linked to the ISIS network in India.
